Your Refreshing Escape to the Atlas Mountains
Your Ourika Valley Day Trip starts at 9:00 am with a pick-up from your hotel or Riad in Marrakech. We then head towards the majestic Atlas Mountains.
Firstly, we take a short scenic drive from Marrakech to the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. After that, we continue our drive along the beautiful Valley of Ourika, passing through successive charming mountain villages. As you go up the hills, we will make several stops to admire and photograph the various wonderful landscapes and panoramic views.
Our journey then takes us to the village of Setti Fatma, the last stop on the paved road and the gateway to the famous seven waterfalls. Here, you can enjoy a short guided hike to discover the beautiful Setti Fatma waterfalls, known for their refreshing pools perfect for swimming (seasonal). Take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding valley from the trail and enjoy the cool mountain air.
After the Setti Fatma hike, you will have the opportunity to see how traditional Argan oil is made at a local women's cooperative. Learn about the process and the many benefits of this precious Moroccan oil. You will also be able to take pictures at several scenic vantage points where we will stop along the way.
Discover the authentic Berber culture by visiting a local village and perhaps the weekly market at Tnin Ourika (if your trip coincides with a market day, typically Monday). Enjoy free time for lunch at one of the local restaurants, where you can savor a traditional Berber Tagine by the riverside.
Your enriching day in the Atlas Mountains ends with a comfortable drive back to Marrakech, where you will be dropped off at your hotel or Riad in the late afternoon.
This is a private day trip, meaning the vehicle and driver/guide are exclusively for your party, ensuring a personalized and flexible experience.
What to Wear: Comfortable walking shoes are essential, especially if you plan to hike to the waterfalls. The paths can be uneven and rocky. Layered clothing is advisable as mountain weather can change. Don't forget sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. If you wish to swim, bring swimwear and a towel (seasonal).
Hiking to Waterfalls: The hike to the Setti Fatma waterfalls involves some uphill walking and can be slippery in places. It is of moderate difficulty. You can choose to hike to the first waterfall or continue further to higher ones based on your fitness and preference. A local guide can be hired at Setti Fatma for this part.
Travel Time: The drive from Marrakech to Ourika Valley (Setti Fatma) is approximately 1 to 1.5 hours each way, depending on traffic and stops.

The hike to the first waterfall at Setti Fatma is generally considered of moderate difficulty, involving some uphill walking on uneven paths and rocks. It takes about 30-45 minutes. You can choose to go further to higher waterfalls, which becomes more challenging. A local guide (optional, for a small fee) can assist and ensure safety.
The visit to the Argan oil cooperative is primarily educational, allowing you to see the traditional production process and learn about the benefits of Argan oil. While there is an opportunity to purchase products, there is absolutely no obligation to do so. It's a good way to support local women's cooperatives if you choose to buy.
The main Berber market day in Tnin Ourika is typically Monday. There might be smaller market activity on other days, particularly Thursday. If experiencing the bustling market is a priority, try to schedule your day trip for a Monday. However, the village itself is charming to visit any day.
As this is a private day trip, there is some flexibility. For example, you can choose how long you wish to spend hiking, at the Argan cooperative, or for lunch. If you have specific interests, like spending more time relaxing by the river or visiting a particular Berber home (if arrangements can be made), discuss this with your driver/guide or with us when booking.
