MOROCCO ITINERARY: 3 DAYS MARRAKECH TO MERZOUGA DESERT

YOUR JOURNEY TO THE HEART OF THE SAHARA

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley (Approx. 6-7h Drive)

Your 3-day desert adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your Marrakech accommodation. We'll drive towards the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the spectacular Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2260m), enjoying breathtaking views and stopping at Berber villages. Our first major stop is the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous as a backdrop for films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After exploring the Kasbah and having lunch, we continue to Ouarzazate (the "Hollywood of Africa"), with an option to visit Atlas Film Studios. The journey proceeds through the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs" and Skoura's palm groves towards the Dades Valley. We'll marvel at the unique rock formations known as "monkey fingers" before settling into your hotel/riad in the Dades Gorges for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga (Erg Chebbi Dunes) (Approx. 4-5h Drive)

After breakfast, we'll enjoy the morning views of Dades Valley before heading to another natural wonder, the Todra Gorges. These towering canyons, carved by the Todra River, offer a fantastic opportunity for a short walk and photos. We then continue our journey south, passing through Tinjdad, Jorf, and Erfoud, known for its fossils. Lunch will be en route. As we approach Merzouga, you'll see the first signs of the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes. Upon arrival in Merzouga, you'll prepare for your camel trek. Led by an experienced guide, you'll ride your camel across the golden sands for about 1-1.5 hours to reach your desert camp. Witness a spectacular Saharan sunset from atop a dune. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner at the camp, followed by Berber music and drumming around a campfire, under a canopy of brilliant stars. Overnight in a private tent in the desert camp.

Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate – Marrakech (Approx. 8-9h Drive)

Wake up early to witness a breathtaking desert sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes – a truly magical experience. After sunrise, you'll have breakfast at the camp and then ride your camels (or take a 4x4) back to Merzouga village. We begin our journey back to Marrakech, taking a different route through the Draa Valley (optional, depending on time and road conditions, alternative via Alnif, Tazarine). We'll pass through Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet, and may visit its traditional souk if time permits. The drive continues through diverse landscapes, including acacia-dotted plains and Berber villages like N'kob and Agdz. We'll stop for lunch in Ouarzazate or a nearby town. Finally, we cross the High Atlas Mountains again, arriving back in Marrakech in the late afternoon or early evening. Your 3-day Merzouga desert tour concludes with a drop-off at your accommodation.
