Your Day-by-Day Discovery of Morocco's Marvels
On the first day of your one week in Morocco, we pick you up early from the airport, the port, or your accommodation in Casablanca. As Morocco's economic center and largest city, Casablanca offers a vibrant start to your journey. Firstly, we will visit the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, the largest mosque in Morocco, strikingly located on the city's west coast, on a promontory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy free time for lunch.
Then, we explore more of the city and also visit the amazing Corniche of Casablanca, a bustling seaside promenade. Finally, an overnight stay in a comfortable hotel in Casablanca.
After breakfast, we drive along the picturesque coastline to Rabat. As one of Morocco's imperial cities and the current capital, Rabat is located on the northwest coast. You will visit the highlights of the city, including the iconic Hassan Tower, the magnificent Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the historic Kasbah of Oudaya with its charming Andalusian gardens. Enjoy free time for lunch.
In the afternoon, we head north via Ouazzane to reach the enchanting Blue City of Chefchaouen. Nestled in the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen is famous for its distinctive buildings and alleyways, all painted in various captivating shades of blue. Finally, an overnight stay in a hotel in Chefchaouen.
After breakfast, feel free to wander through the beautiful blue alleyways of Chefchaouen, soaking up its unique and tranquil atmosphere. Then, we drive to visit the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. This remarkably well-preserved archaeological site is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site and features many beautiful mosaics, ancient pillars, and archways, offering a fascinating glimpse into Morocco's Roman past.
After strolling through the impressive ruins, we drive approximately 30 km to visit Meknes, the Ismaili capital and one of Morocco's imperial cities. Here, we will explore historical sites such as the grand Bab Al-Mansour gate, the Sahrij Souani basin, the Royal stables, the historic granary, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum.
Then, we head to Fes, the cultural and spiritual heart of Morocco. Overnight stay in a traditional Riad in Fes.
We dedicate today to exploring the Highlights of Fes city with an official local guide. Fes is considered one of Morocco's most important imperial cities, renowned as the country's cultural and religious center.
Firstly, we start the day by visiting the magnificent Royal Palace gate. Then, we explore the well-preserved medieval Medina (Fes el-Bali), a UNESCO World Heritage site. You will visit the iconic Blue Gate (Bab Boujloud), the main entrance to the old Medina, which appears to be a labyrinth of narrow alleyways and bustling streets. You will enter the Medina to visit key landmarks such as The Medrasa Bouanania, the Najjarine fountain, the famous Tanneries, and finally, the Quaraouin Mosque and University – recognized as the oldest existing, continually operating university in the world.
After our Medina exploration, we leave to visit the Jewish quarter, also known as “the Mellah.” Then, we drive to an ancient fortress for panoramic views of the Medina and the entire city of Fes. Finally, you will be returned to your Riad.
After breakfast in Fes, we drive south through Imouzzer to visit Ifrane, renowned for its cool climate, occasional snow, and alpine-style architecture – earning it the nickname "Switzerland of Morocco."
Next, we continue to the ancient cedars forest near Azrou, a natural habitat for Barbary macaques, where you can observe and even feed these friendly creatures. Later, we proceed to Midelt, where we will have free time for lunch. Our journey then takes us towards the Sahara Desert, navigating the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and following the picturesque Ziz River, with stops for panoramic views of its stunning valley.
In the afternoon, we arrive at the edge of the magnificent Merzouga Sahara Desert (Erg Chebbi dunes). Here, you will switch to camels for an unforgettable trek across the golden sand dunes. You will make a stop on top of a high dune to enjoy the magical desert sunset. Finally, you continue to the luxury desert camp, a combination of traditional nomad tents and modern hotel comforts. Here, you can enjoy traditional Berber drums music while dancing around a crackling campfire, under a vast open sky filled with stars. Dinner and an overnight stay in the camp.
Waking up early this morning to contemplate the beautiful Sahara sunrise from the heart of the desert is an unmissable experience. After free time for breakfast at the camp, you will return by camel (or 4x4 vehicle) to Merzouga village to meet your driver.
We then leave the desert to visit Rissani town, the ancient capital of the Tafilalet region. Rissani remains a significant trading hub, with a large, authentic souk (market) that is particularly lively three days a week. After a stroll through the Rissani Souk, we continue to Erfoud, renowned for its rich fossil deposits, where we can visit a workshop specializing in fossilized marble.
Our journey then takes us through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad towards the spectacular Todra Gorges. Here, the Todra River has carved a magnificent canyon through the mountains, creating high, red cliff-sided walls – an ideal spot for rock climbers and nature lovers alike. Feel free to wander through the gorges and appreciate the stunning natural beauty. Enjoy free time for lunch in a local restaurant. Afterwards, we continue our drive to the Dades Valley, via Boumalne Dades, making inevitable stops to admire the unique "monkey fingers" rock formation and for a panoramic view overlooking the Dades Valley. Finally, dinner and an overnight stay in a comfortable hotel in the Dades Valley.
On the last day of your 7-day Morocco tour, we continue our trip towards Kalaa M'gouna to visit the Roses Valley, famous for its fragrant Damascus roses and the annual Rose Festival held in May, where locals showcase their rose-based products, from perfumes and rose water to oils and cosmetics. We then drive through the verdant palm groves of Skoura to reach Ouarzazate. Next, we visit the renowned film studios where many famous movies were shot (optional visit).
Thereafter, we depart to visit the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. This fortified village is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has served as a backdrop for numerous epic films (Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy) and popular TV series like Game of Thrones. (An optional visit to Telouet Kasbah can also be arranged).
After exploring this historic ksar, we continue our journey towards Marrakech. Our route takes us through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, crossing the scenic Tizi-N-Tichka pass (2260m). Stops will be made for lunch (at leisure) and to take pictures at interesting spots along this breathtaking mountain road. Upon arrival in Marrakech, time permitting and based on your preference, a brief guided orientation or highlights tour of Marrakech can be arranged before we drive you to your accommodation or the airport.
