Morocco Itinerary: 5 Days Tour from Casablanca to Marrakech

Your 5-Day Journey Through Morocco's Wonders

Day 1: Arrival to Casablanca & City Exploration

We pick you up from the airport, the port, or your accommodation in Casablanca. Casablanca is considered the economic center and also the largest city in Morocco. Firstly, we will visit the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, the largest mosque in Morocco, strikingly located on the west coast of the city on a promontory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy free time for lunch.

Then, we explore more of the city and also visit the amazing Corniche of Casablanca, a vibrant seaside promenade. Finally, an overnight stay in a comfortable hotel in Casablanca.

Day 2: Casablanca – Roman Ruins of Volubilis – Imperial Meknes – Fes (Cultural Capital)

After breakfast, we depart from Casablanca to visit the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. This remarkably well-preserved archaeological site is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site and features many beautiful mosaics scattered here and there, along with ancient pillars and archways, offering a fascinating glimpse into Morocco's Roman past.

After strolling through the impressive ruins of Volubilis, we drive approximately 30 km to visit Meknes, the Ismaili capital and one of Morocco's imperial cities. Here, we will explore historical sites such as the grand Bab Al-Mansour gate, the Sahrij Souani basin, the Royal stables, the historic granary, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum.

Then, we head to Fes, the cultural and spiritual heart of Morocco. Overnight stay in a traditional Riad in Fes.

Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Cedars Forest – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Sahara (Camel Trek & Luxury Camp)

After breakfast in Fes, we drive south through Imouzzer to visit Ifrane, renowned for its cool climate, occasional snow, and alpine-style architecture – earning it the nickname "Switzerland of Morocco."

Next, we continue to the ancient cedars forest near Azrou, a natural habitat for Barbary macaques, where you can observe and even feed these friendly creatures. Later, we proceed to Midelt, where we will have free time for lunch. Our journey then takes us towards the Sahara Desert, navigating the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and following the picturesque Ziz River, with stops for panoramic views of its stunning valley.

In the afternoon, we arrive at the edge of the magnificent Merzouga Sahara Desert (Erg Chebbi dunes). Here, you will switch to camels for an unforgettable trek across the golden sand dunes. You will make a stop on top of a high dune to enjoy the magical desert sunset. Finally, you continue to the luxury desert camp, a combination of traditional nomad tents and modern hotel comforts. Here, you can enjoy traditional Berber drums music while dancing around a crackling campfire, under a vast open sky filled with stars. Dinner and an overnight stay in the camp.

Day 4: Merzouga Sahara – Rissani Market – Erfoud Fossils – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley

Waking up early this morning to contemplate the beautiful Sahara sunrise from the heart of the desert is an unmissable experience. After free time for breakfast at the camp, you will return by camel (or 4x4 vehicle) to Merzouga village to meet your driver.

We then leave the desert to visit Rissani town, the ancient capital of the Tafilalet region. Rissani remains a significant trading hub, with a large, authentic souk (market) that is particularly lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. After a stroll through the Rissani Souk, we continue to Erfoud, renowned for its rich fossil deposits, where we can visit a workshop specializing in fossilized marble.

Our journey then takes us through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad towards the spectacular Todra Gorges. Here, the Todra River has carved a magnificent canyon through the mountains, creating high, red cliff-sided walls – an ideal spot for rock climbers and nature lovers alike. Feel free to wander through the gorges and appreciate the stunning natural beauty. Enjoy free time for lunch in a local restaurant. Afterwards, we continue our drive to the Dades Valley, via Boumalne Dades, making inevitable stops to admire the unique "monkey fingers" rock formation and for a panoramic view of the Dades Valley. Finally, dinner and an overnight stay in a comfortable hotel in the Dades Valley.

Day 5: Dades Valley – Roses Valley – Skoura Palm Groves – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Telouet (Optional) – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

Finally, on the last day of your 5-day Morocco tour, we continue our trip towards Kalaa M'gouna to visit the Roses Valley, famous for its fragrant Damascus roses and the annual Rose Festival held in May. We then drive through the verdant palm groves of Skoura to reach Ouarzazate. Here, we visit the renowned film studios where many famous movies were shot (optional visit).

We then depart to visit the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. This fortified village is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has served as a backdrop for numerous epic films (Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy) and popular TV series like Game of Thrones. (An optional visit to Telouet Kasbah can also be arranged).

After exploring this historic ksar, we continue our journey towards Marrakech. Our route takes us through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, crossing the scenic Tizi-N-Tichka pass (2260m). Stops will be made for lunch (at leisure) and to take pictures at interesting spots along this breathtaking mountain road. Finally, we reach Marrakech in the late afternoon/early evening, where we will drive you to your accommodation or the airport.

Frequently Asked Questions: 5-Day Casablanca to Marrakech Tour

Is it possible to visit the interior of Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca?

Yes, visiting the interior of Hassan II Mosque is possible for non-Muslims during specific visiting hours and for an entrance fee. Our itinerary includes a visit to the mosque area; if you wish to go inside, please inform your guide, and they can advise on the timing and current entrance fee (which is not included in the tour price).

How much time is spent in Fes on this tour?

On this 5-day itinerary, you will arrive in Fes on the evening of Day 2 and depart on the morning of Day 3. This allows for an overnight stay and a brief experience of the city. If you wish to have a guided tour of Fes Medina, you would need to extend your stay in Fes or choose a longer tour that incorporates a full day for Fes exploration.

What is the difference between the desert camp and the hotel stay in Merzouga?

The desert camp (Day 3) offers an immersive Sahara experience, with traditional Berber tents (luxury standard with private ensuite bathrooms), dinner under the stars, and Berber music. The hotel stay in Merzouga (not explicitly listed for Day 2 on this itinerary, usually this day would be exploring Merzouga and then heading to Todra/Dades) would provide standard hotel amenities. *Self-correction: Your itinerary lists hotel stay on Day 2 for Merzouga. This provides a comfortable base for the 4x4 exploration on Day 2, before the camp experience on Day 3 evening.*

Can this tour be done in reverse, from Marrakech to Casablanca?

Yes, it is certainly possible to arrange this 5-day tour in the reverse direction, starting from Marrakech and ending in Casablanca. The itinerary would be adjusted accordingly to cover the same highlights. Please let us know your preferred start and end cities when you make an inquiry.
